Late one night in February I did something I never do — I decided to e-mail this band I found on Spotify called The Marías and ask if they would like to do a photo shoot with me. I’ve always wanted to work outside my comfort zone, and I just had this gut feeling that I understood a special way to conceptualize their music. I thought we were on similar wavelengths, so I just went for it. Their music is described as a “psychedelic-soul lovechild” — I mean, how could I not hit them up?
I really wasn’t expecting a reply, but the band said they loved my work and asked to set something up. A couple months later I finally got to shoot the lead singer of the band, Maria Zardoya. The photoshoot went extremely well, let's just say there are some exciting things to expect in the future.
Here’s a look at the photo shoot.
Film: Kodak Portra 400
Camera: Nikon FM10
A little video I put together from the shoot.
